Usage:
Shampoo:
Use shampoo as often as necessary, but as infrequently as possible. A good rule of thumb is about 2–6 times a month, but every head of hair is different—find the right routine for your curls.
If you tend to want to use shampoo more frequently, focus the shampoo mainly on your scalp and hairline. This cleanses the roots and removes the body’s natural oils without drying out the ends of your hair (the oldest hair) too much.
Conditioner:
Conditioner is probably the most important product to use in the shower. It seals the hair cuticles and locks in moisture at the same time. This makes your curls easier to comb. After all, it’s the tangled cuticles that can make combing your curls so unpleasant.
On days when you don’t wash your curls with shampoo, just use conditioner to rinse your hair. So, wash with water, work the conditioner through with your fingers, then detangle (comb) your curls and rinse.
As a general rule, always finish your shower with conditioner!
Despite all its benefits, you should never apply conditioner (or styling products) to your scalp, because the effect intended for the hair (sealing the cuticles for easier combing and longer-lasting moisture retention) is absolutely undesirable for the scalp! Here, too, the conditioner would close the pores of the skin, which can lead to itching, dandruff, or an over-oily scalp.
Leave-in:
The leave-in product defines and enhances your curls while moisturizing your hair. Apply the leave-in to “towel-dried” or wet curls. To do this, rub a small amount between your palms and work it into your hair with your fingers; if needed, you can comb through your curls again. Finish by scrunching (not for Afro hair) Scrunching helps your curls take on an even more beautiful shape.
To give your curls more life and bounce, start applying styling products about a hand’s width away from your scalp. This makes the curls lighter, especially for finer hair and wavy or curly textures.
Mousse
Use the mousse to set your curls, which have been defined by the leave-in conditioner. Rub the mousse between your palms and work it into your curls with your fingers, then scrunch them again to finish.
