Walks in the fresh snow, hot drinks on cold days, or snuggling up under a blanket with a cup of hot cocoa in front of the TV—winter can be so wonderful! But for your curls, the cold season also brings some challenges. The dry air and heated air quickly dry out your curls and make them prone to frizz.
In this blog post, I’ll show you how to keep your curls healthy and shiny even during the cold season. With these simple tips, you’ll enjoy the winter with gorgeous, voluminous curls!

Right now, curls are craving: moisture, moisture, and more moisture
One of the most important things for your curls during the cold months is—you guessed it—moisture! To protect your hair from drying out, you should treat it to a moisturizing maskonce a week. Yes, we know, a hair mask takes time, and unfortunately, you don’t always have that. But you really should treat yourself to these 20 minutes; it’s worth it, I promise!
To further enhance the moisturizing mask’s effects, I recommend the Hot Head cap . Made from natural materials and handmade, you can easily warm this cap in the oven or microwave and slip it over your curls along with your mask. The heat generated under the cap opens the hair cuticles, allowing the treatment to penetrate your curls more effectively and, above all, more deeply. Plus, you’ll love the cozy, soothing sensation.
Some of our favorite masks for soft, hydrated curls include:
- The Inahsi Restorative Hair Mask is the perfect choice for your curls as the cold season approaches. It provides intense hydration and deeply repairs your curls. Especially in winter, when dry heated air and cold weather take a toll on your curls, this mask helps protect them from further damage and preserve their natural strength.
- The Curly Secret Repairing Hair Mask is a real lifesaver for your curls in winter. Not only does it repair damaged strands, but it also provides an extra dose of moisture to nourish your curls throughout the cold season. Its rich formula leaves your curls wonderfully smooth and helps combat winter dryness and frizz.
- The Curly Love Ultra Hydrating Mask is exactly what your curls need this winter! It provides deep hydration and ensures that your curls stay soft and shiny even in cold weather. This mask helps minimize moisture loss caused by dry winter air and protects your curls from frizz and dryness.
This is just a small selection; of course, there are many more masks available on lockenkopf that nourish and care for your curls. Each one has its own benefits and helps keep your hair healthy.
Co-washing for shiny curls
So-called co-washing products are especially great for your kinky and coily curls during the cold winter months. This method helps your curls and scalp retain more moisture while leaving them feeling nourished and smooth, as the co-wash method is specifically designed to transform frizzy hair back into a beautifulhead of curls.
We've picked out some of our favorite products for you:
- Activilong | Actiforce Co-Wash
The plant-based ingredients provide your curls with extra moisture and help prevent tangles. - Activilong | Acticurl Co-Wash
Slightly lighter than the Actiforce Co-Wash, well-suited for finer hair or wavy curls that can’t handle too much product. - Afro Love | Wash & Love Cleansing Cream Afro Love's co-wash cleanses, conditions, and detangles your curls in one step.
Natural products for your curly hair
To combat dry, heated air and dry hair, your hair needs plenty of moisture. But you should never forget to give your curls only the best. Whenever possible, avoid artificial, chemical ingredients and pamper your beautiful curls with natural oils and products. We also place a high value on naturalness, which is why you’ll find an incredible variety of products based on natural ingredients in our boutique.
If that’s not enough for you, why not browse our vegan products section: we guarantee there’s nothing in there that doesn’t belong.
Easy Curl Care for Every Day
Did you know that even simple tricks can help you wear your curls with pride, even during the cold season?
For example, while wool hats are nice and warm and especially popular in winter, your curls won’t be too happy about them. Instead, try wearing a velvet or silk hat. They put much less strain on your hair and cause minimal tangling.
A mixture of plain water and a few drops of your favorite product—such as a natural hair oil from our range—also helps keep your curls looking radiant even in the days following your hair care routine.
And so you can take your homemade miracle cure with you wherever you go while still looking super chic, we’ve designed the perfect spray bottle just for you.
Well, my dears, that’s all from me on curly hair care in winter. I’ll try to write more again and hopefully help you on your curly hair journey.
Until then,
warmest
Rosa Maria
